Over the past 8 months Dr. Bjarne Berg has been working on moving a very large SAP BW system to HANA. Overall he and the team moved 15TB of BW data to a HANA environment and tested almost 100 of the most used queries.
They also did a comparison of HANA vs. BWA and a HANA data load performance of over 500 jobs.
The tests were undertaken to see if it could actually be done and to get some performance benchmarks from testing a real system with real queries.
In his blog Berg looks at the real performance benchmarks which saw some spectacular performance in some areas . Some queries that took over 348 seconds on Oracle took 1.19 seconds on HANA (292 times faster). About 10% of queries tested were at least 50 times faster on HANA.
