60 year old family-run business L.J.A.MIERS & CO LTD has chosen SAP’s Business One ERP system, running on the supplier’s in-memory database HANA, to re-cast its business.
Established in 1954, LJA Miers & Co. Ltd is one of the longest running rubber and plastics converters in the United Kingdom today. They have a wide range of products and services that meet varying customers’ requirements in the automotive and construction industries. Leveraging a centrally located warehouse and production facilities means they are to cope with the just in time requirements of the modern manufacturing industry.
Products include “Kiss Cut” parts, rotary cut parts, adhesive coated foams and fabrics, flexible extrusions in a range of rubber materials and foam rubber mouldings.
LJA Miers is classified as a mid-sized UK firm and is the first UK customer to implement BusinessOne enterprise resource planning (ERP) software running on its HANA in-memory database platform.
Alongside a sister company, Miers Construction Products, which operates on the same IT infrastructure, there is a combined turnover of approximately £10 million, with both companies forecasting swift growth over the next year. There are a total of around 75 employees across the two firms, including sales, accounting and production staff.
The firm had initially been intending to implement BusinessOne on SQL databases, but decided instead to run the ERP system on the in-memory database platform, HANA.
The roll-out of SAP Business One, version for SAP HANA, with a manufacturing-specific software add-on from Variatec, is already underway and LJA Miers and Prospettiva are using an online collaboration tool to put the solution in place. The project is estimated to go live on January 6th 2014.
